My Journey to Creating Becoming H.E.R. Counseling and Consulting, LLC
I want to start off by thanking you for stopping by and considering Becoming H.E.R. Counseling and Consulting for your mental health needs! I am Ebony Shimin, a licensed clinical social worker and your woman empowerment specialist therapist. I created BHCC with you in mind!
I started this journey in 2008 when I was going through by own life transition of becoming a divorced and single mom who had to learn how to navigate systems in order to provide and care for my toddler and infant sons. It was then when I had to work/volunteer in order to receive financial assistance known as K-TAP, that I received the calling to social work. I volunteered at the L&N building for the Kentucky cabinet for health and family services where I engaged with clients who were seeking services or coming in for their annual recertifications for benefits. I really enjoyed being a support to those so much that clients would ask if I could be their case worker. From there I went on to volunteer at the Center for Women and Families as an court advocate where I provided support to women survivors of domestic violence.
Through my own lived experiences and volunteer work, I started my journey to ultimately creating Becoming H.E.R. Counseling and Consulting. I know what it feels like to feel the stress, hurt, anxiety, depression and sometimes shame when going through a life transition/challenge. And that’s why I am dedicated to holding space for women alike who are going through their own life challenges and transitions and who are in need of a safe space to be seen, supported, heal and become their healthiest, empowered and resilient self!
My Professional Accolades and Clinical Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in the state of Kentucky to provide psychotherapy. I have 16 years of experience from volunteering and working in various settings such as community mental health centers, domestic violent centers for women, community agencies specifically for women and families, residential centers for adolescents and psychiatric hospitals. I have worked with every population, from child to geriatrics. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2015 from Spalding University .
My mission for helping women is to empower them to embrace their true selves, cultivate resilience, and achieve emotional well-being. I believe every woman deserves a safe space to explore her thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. Through compassionate counseling and consulting, I aim to provide tools and strategies that support personal growth, healing, and self-acceptance.
I strive to create an environment where women can connect with their inner strength and gain clarity in their lives. By addressing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues, I focus on fostering a sense of community and understanding. It is my goal to help women recognize their worth, reclaim their narratives, and become the architects of their own futures.
Empowerment is at the heart of my mission. I am committed to guiding women on their journey to self-discovery and advocating for their mental health needs. Together, we will break down barriers, dismantle societal expectations, and cultivate a life of authenticity and fulfillment. Through this work, I aim to inspire women to become their best selves, reinforcing the belief that they are not only capable but deserving of happiness and success.
